You Know What Song Rules?

This one right here...

Seriously, I always hated this song as a kid, then just heard it recently, and man does it rule in it's timeless 70s groove. If I told you it was from the soundtrack to some obscure Pam Grier movie you wouldn't doubt it for a second.

P.S. - Been a busy spring, plus I wasn't sure how much everyone wanted to hear me talk about Phish, since I listened to nothing else for about 4 months, but screw it, you all are going to hear me talk about Phish and like it!

Just glad to have you back, even if it's defending Lenny Kravitz and Phish.

(And yeah, it's true, this song isn't half-bad. Neither is Are You Gonna Go My Way? Their flaw is that they are wholly unoriginal to the point that Prince and Jimi Hendrix should receive all of Kravitz's royalties in perpetuity.)

i happened to hear a little bit of 'Always On The Run' this morning and was struck by how great it was...i think Slash plays on it too...Mama Said is a pretty great album as it turns out...

I'll give you the "wholly unoriginal" point - no argument there. But of course, there's far worse things to be than a very skillful imitator of peak-era Prince and Jimi Hendrix. One of those worse things? Lenny Kravitz post Are You Gonna Go My Way. Seriously I can't thinkl of many more artists who I feel so feel into complete suckitude so quickly.

Mama Said IS a great album, and while most of Kravitz's output is pretty unoriginal, I think this song IS original, in the same way that, let's say, "You Never Know" from the new Wilco album is basically a late-70s George Harrison solo song, but still a great Wilco track. It stands on its own terms as a fantastic melody and arrangement.
