Jay Bennett Approaching Rock Bottom

More than anything, I just feel sorry for the guy.

He's suing for royalties from that 2001 documentary which stars him as a depressing guy who got fired from Wilco.

i thought Tweedy's response was funny - something to extent of "I know exactly as much about this as anyone does. it was a long time ago for a movie i didn't produce."

I actually feel for Bennett - he co-wrote all those tunes and deserves royalties for them just as much as Tweedy. The lawsuit seems embarrassing, but if that's what it takes to get paid, that's what it takes.

Agreed, but he shouldn't be suing Tweedy; he should be suing the film's producers. Tweedy did ensure that he gets royalties for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and the preceding albums, but the film seems beyond his domain.

Who knows what happened- maybe the contract had the film paying royalties to wilco mgmt company for them to distribute internally, which they neglected to do. Maybe jay is totally off base.
Impossible to say with the information we have.

Was traveling last week but figured this would end up here inevitably. I'm on record as a big fan of Bennett's contribution to the band (especialy Summerteeth), but this whole thing is very :(.
