Playing Basketball With The Moon

I thought for my first post I'd say something positive about a rapper I've given a hard time to in some of our discussions in the past. But in the past couple of years, Lil Wayne really has evolved out of a paint-by-numbers crack dealer pose into something much more interesting. You can still count on him to say something extremely misogynist every couple of songs, and his proud gang allegiance is sometimes more than I can take--but if you're the sort of listener that can take all that with a grain of salt and get lost in his very funny one liners and incredibly inventive metaphors, then it's worth giving a listen to some of his most recent work. I'm especially taken with this song, which leaked out and is rumored to be on his new album (Tha Carter III, due out, by the latest reports, in March). I'd say he gives the Jefferson Airplane a run for their money on this song, in terms of the pure pizazz with which he talks about drugs.

Wow, I totally disagree. The beat is my favorite part.
