(I listened to a thirty second sample on iTunes. It sounds pretty much exactly how you'd think it sounds).

and, um, it's pretty awesome throughout. especially the money shot near the end when he starts wailing. Really makes you realize that what stops most of these good indie rock band from attaining greatness is the lack of an awesome singer.
The clock is now ticking for Dirty Projectors to land Kenny Loggins.
"pretty much exactly how you'd think it sounds" was not meant to be negative-- it just literally does sound exactly like how you'd think it would sound if Michael McDonald sang "While You Wait For the Others." And yes, so true about good singers. Good singers and good drummers-- very underrated commodities.
EDIT: Also, I found the full length version on a blog, and yeah, that part at the end is awesome.
Agreed about indie rock singers. It reminds me of why everything Mark Lanegan touches turns to gold. Smokey, rust-hewn gold.
I'm not sure how much smokey, rust hewn gold there was in, for example, the Screaming Trees' "Uncle Anesthesia"...though for the most part I agree with you that Lanegan has a great voice and is often underrated. I just think there have been as many dips in his career as highlights.

LOL!
I'll give you that, but check out the way he elevates Isobel Campbell's batch of okay songs up to the next level.
